Introduction

Continuous improvement is important in Discipline Agile because it allows for the identification, sharing, and capture of improvements to processes and practices. By supporting teams and organizing communities of practice, organizations can create a culture of learning and improvement that leads to greater efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction. Continuous improvement is also a key component of the Disciplined DevOps mindset, which seeks to streamline IT solution development and operations through collaboration, learning, and agile practices.

Adopt the release management mindset with these philosophies:

  1. Behavior first. Long-term improvement starts with changing behavior.

  2. Small incremental changes. Lasting improvements often emerge over time as small changes.

  3. Experiment, experiment, experiment. Allow people to experiment with new ways of working.

  4. Mistakes teach. Failed experiments are important learning opportunities.

  5. Others teach. Learn from the experiences of others.

  6. Learning organization. Modify behavior to reflect new knowledge and insights.

  7. Share learnings widely. Facilitate sharing of learnings between people, teams, and organizations.

  8. Celebrate learnings. Celebrating learnings signals that it is safe and desirable to try.

  9. Measured improvement. What gets measured gets improved.

To improve your process, identify, share, and capture improvements, and support teams and organize communities of practice (CoPs)/guilds.

Support teams by helping them run process improvement experiments. Organize CoPs/guilds by identifying, sharing, capturing, and supporting improvements. Govern improvement by monitoring and reporting on improvement activities.
